Kojey Radical

A multidisciplinary creative whose work spans music, poetry, fashion, and visual arts, Kojey Radical is an artist with a capital ‘A’.

As part of your collaboration with Ted Baker, you have created an original piece of spoken word on what Britain means to you. Did you draw on any particular memories for this? I feel like I had to draw on all of my memories for this. I had to go back to a simpler time in my mind; waking up in the East End to the sound of market stalls and shop shutters, and people grafting. To me that’s very quintessentially British.

If you had to choose a favourite piece from your edit of the MIB collection what would it be?  I like the outerwear and the loose waffle knit crew. I’m just really into simplicity, details and comfort.

In your opinion, what is it that makes British style so unique? The diversity and cultures. I really respect the influence of other nations, other countries and other cultures that help British design processes.

What things have helped you to stay creative and inspired over the last year?  That’s a hard question! I think just focussing on my album and trying to make it the most honest effort I possibly could.

How has British culture influenced your artistry?  I grew up on grime, garage, ska music, spoken word poetry and reggae. I grew up on so many different things that I don’t think I would have ever had the opportunity to really embrace as much as I have if I didn’t live in Britain.

Greta Bellamacina

Actress, poet, filmmaker and model, Camden’s own Greta Bellamacina clearly knows a thing or two about getting creative.

As part of your collaboration with Ted Baker you have created an original piece of spoken word on what Britain means to you. Did you draw on any particular memories for this? I wrote the poem with the Bronksi Beat song ‘Small Town Boy’ in my mind. I’ve recently been living in the countryside during lockdown and taken the train back into London on a few occasions. I love watching the small towns flicker by like emblems of hope all lit up in the distance

If you had to choose a favourite piece from your edit of the MIB collection what would it be? I love the frill collar jacquard top; it’s the perfect shirt. The collar can brighten up an outfit but also remain timeless at the same time.

In your opinion, what is it that makes British style so unique? There is a certain eccentricity that lives in British style. You don’t have to go far to see it. Get on a bus or walk down the street and you can really see a fusion of culture and originality everywhere.

What things have helped you to stay creative and inspired over the last year?  I’ve watched a lot of films and revisited some of my old favourites. I’ve also have been going on a lot of walks. I like walking as a way to daydream and reflect on the elements all around.

What projects are you currently working on and what can you tell us about them?  My film Hurt by Paradise comes out on the 8th February. Then, Venice At Dawn, a film I play the lead in, comes out this year. I’m also working on a poetry collection called Biography of The Wind.

How has British culture influenced your artistry?  I grew up going to music venues in Camden. I spent my evenings at The Barfly or The Enterprise. What enlightened me was a notion of independence. I’ve always approached my work with that in mind. Give it a go, make mistakes, do it again, hope for the best and be as honest as you can be.
